I was talking with a good friend today who shared a true story with me that just makes me sick. If it’s not already hard enough for people to learn the right way to market online, they have to deal with garbage like this.
It turns out that one of the more popular, big ticket business opportunties out there is teaching people to lie on the videos they are creating in order to convince others that they are making tens of thousands of dollars per month. One account I heard, recently, was of a gentlemen who was encouraged to lie about leaving his job so he could work at home full time because he was making so much money.
It seems to me that the conscience of those being taught this FRAUDULENT method of marketing would bother them a bit… but then I look at the videos on YouTube and it’s obvious that people are so bent on the money that their moral clarity is clouded by some idiot who is teaching them to lie, and that it’s okay.
Lying in marketing and business is not okay. Not only are there spiritual consequences to such activity, if someone finds you out (as happened in this case) then your reputation is at stake. In this particular case, the person in question was given legitimate counsel as to the error in their ways and the appropriate actions were taken to remedy the situation before their repuation cold be tarnished.
Had the wrong person discovered this was going on, it could have been ugly. It takes a matter of minutes to expose a fraud online and spread the word. The one thing I respect about the social marketing community is that (when it’s important enough) it’s self governed to an extent. But, that self governing can go either way depending on whose hands information falls into.
So, long story short… if you are being told by some supposed “mentor, coach or guru” that you need to fabricate stories and fake riches to make money online then I would encourage you to look elsewhere, because nothing could be further from the truth. You can make great money online doing things correctly if you listen to the right people and study the right materials.
For those of you teaching this method of marketing, remember, whatever you do you always have an audience of one… God is watching!
Happy Memorial Day!
